With a self-penned
motto of “Work Hard, Ride Clean”, Team Planet Bike’s Jonathan Page is perhaps
the essence of what true cyclocross is all
about.
‘Cross is arguably the
fastest growing of all cycling genres in the United States today, but it has
long been a staple for ‘hard men’, training and racing through the ‘off-season’
in Northern Europe for literally decades. While many of us are fortunate to
participate or spectate in this arduous event on this side of the pond, Page
decided a long time ago that, in order to be the best; he had to race with the
best the world had to offer. So, in 2003, he and then girlfriend Cori booked a
one-way ticket to Belgium with New England grit, determination and a couple of
suitcases, embarking on a path that they have stuck with for the past 7 years,
ultimately delivering Page as the top American cyclocross racer on the world
stage.
With no less than 8
national championships, a silver in Worlds and too numerous wins and top ten
finishes in USGP, UCI World Cup, GVA and Superprestige races to mention
throughout his cycling career; one could say that cyclocross is Page’s calling.
However, despite the trophy case being full to bursting, his many accolades and
his dedication to the sport are the least of what defines him as a person. When
Page isn’t in the saddle (and sometimes even when he is!), you’ll find a
likeable goofball who is clearly besotted by the only three distractions in his
long career – his wife Cori, daughter Emma (5) and son Milo (2). Indeed, these
guys play his pit crew, his fan club (bring ear plugs if you intend to stand
with this particular cheering section), his training partners and traveling
companions in a country and environment where only the toughest
prevail.
Two years into his
relationship with Edge Composites, Page brings far more to the table than most
sponsored athletes. His commitment to showing the rest of the world what an
amazing sport cyclocross really is and the podiums he delivers are obviously
important to us; but he also has an incredibly technical mind that helps us
develop products that can stand up to the rigors of such an athlete and event.
Case in point, our latest offering, theEdge 2.25shallow rim – a beefed-up version of our
acclaimed, superlight 1.25. Like JP, it’s tough, incredibly solid and despite
its impressive race weight, can stand up to anything Mother Nature can throw at
it.
Jonathan, Cori, Emma
and Milo, we’re thrilled to have your family on
board with ours – thanks for a great season and here’s to many more. Follow JP
